Electronic File Preparation
We use a computer-to-plate print process, meaning that all files are manipulated
on the computer, not by hand. This is the most modern print process available, and it allows us to make
very efficient, cost-effective press runs using remote printing companies. We upload specially-formatted
files to our printers, and they return print magazines to us and to our distributors.
A camera-ready ad is one that needs no manipulation, scanning, enhancement, re-touching,
re-sizing, or other human touches before being ready to place on the page in the electronic file. When we
receive a camera-ready ad, we open the file and review it for size, format, and color, then place it directly
in the electronic file for the magazine.
To meet the specifications for this print process, camera-ready ads must be:
1. Completely composed.
2. In electronic format, provided to us on disk or by e-mail as TIFF, EPS, PDF, or JPG.
Print ad slicks and films are not acceptable.
3. At resolution of 300 dpi for all images and text.
4. In full process color (CMYK). Black and white, grayscale, RGB, or indexed-color
ads are not acceptable. Ads with spot (PMS) color are not acceptable.
5. Text used in reverses should be 8pt or larger in size.
6. No color may be more than 300% combined CMYK value. Blacks for large solid
areas should be standard "rich black," 30 20 20 100, and black text should be
0 0 0 100.
7. Sized precisely according to the size requirements for the ad purchased. Size
requirements are posted at www.shenandoahvalleyguide.com/adsizes.htm.
