New Media Initiatives

"Wherever you go, there we are!"

With our New Media Initiatives, we showcase your ad and tell your story in our print magazine, and then our mobile website and daily-updated feeds will hold visitors' hands and lead them to your door... a winning combination for you!

  1. Mobile Website — We have a new mobile website, goShenandoah.mobi! Select or enter the name of a city, town, or county (in our footprint, of course), and get a menu for that location, including: tourist info, weather, traffic conditions, attractions, lodging, dining, and shopping. Tourist info brings up details for the local CVB/DMO; weather brings up current
weather information for the locale; traffic conditions direct-dials 511, and attractions, lodging, dining, and shopping link to categorized lists of our advertising partners, which, in turn, link to a detailed information page about each advertiser.

Detail pages for advertisers include: Name, a line of descriptive or lead-generating text, physical address, direct-dial linked telephone number, Mapquest mobile directions, and Twitter or Facebook link, if available.

We currently have all our present and former print advertisers linked on
the mobile website. Beginning on June 1, 2010 we’ll only be listing current advertisers and other businesses who contract with us for the mobile website listing.

  2. Standard Website — We’re in the process of uploading the list of all sometime advertisers (in addition to current advertisers) to our standard website, ShenandoahValleyGuide.com Standard website listings include advertiser Facebook and/or Twitter links, where available.

We’ll continue listing all current and former print advertisers at no charge until the end of May, as well. Currently contracted print advertisers will continue to receive both standard and mobile website listings at no additional charge. Beginning June 1, we will also be permitting businesses to contract with us just for website listings (either standard, mobile, or both).

  3. Facebook — We’re now present on Facebook as Shenandoah Valley & Beyond. We are posting one update daily about something going on or something to do in the Shenandoah Valley & surrounding areas. It's a great way to draw attention to what YOU are doing. We're encouraging our advertisers to forward newsworthy items to us for use as our daily update!

We are also assembling a comprehensive list of ‘pages’ (left side, scroll down) linking us to businesses and tourism-related entities within our footprint.

  4. Twitter — We are on Twitter as goShenandoah. Our daily update on Facebook feeds over to Twitter, so our Twitter followers will see it as well. We also follow tourism entities and related businesses within our footprint on Twitter, and we check the feed several times a day, so that we can ‘retweet’ relevant postings to our followers. Our Twitter feed also appears on the homepage of our standard website, ShenandoahValleyGuide.com. Twitter feeds from CVBs/DMOs (where available) also now appear on the locale pages of our standard website.

These new media initiatives have been designed to dovetail with and support our print magazine. From Spring 2010 on, the goShenandoah.mobi website will be featured prominently on the pages of Shenandoah Valley & Beyond.

Someone, who’s traveling in the Valley and picks up our print magazine, reads about an advertiser in our editorial or is inspired by a particular ad to visit an advertiser. Now they can use their cell phone to access our mobile website, connecting quickly to the advertiser's unique detail page on it.

That will immediately give the traveler a tidbit of descriptive information about the advertiser, their address, direct-dial phone link, Mapquest directions, and the advertiser's Twitter feed, telling what’s happening that day or weekend.

With our New Media Initiatives, we showcase your ad and tell your story in our print magazine, and then our mobile website and daily-updated feeds will hold visitors' hands and lead them to your door... a winning combination for you!
