Danville Tourism Information
Think south and east from Roanoke, due south from Lynchburg, and mostly south from Smith Mountain Lake, almost to the North Carolina border. Not "in" the Shenandoah Valley, but definitely side-trek material, Danville sits on the banks of the Dan River, easily accessible from all directions, at the crossroads of US29 and US58.
Historically, the Dan River was a catalyst for industrial development. Now the river's value rests in its natural beauty and abundant recreational opportunities. Walk or bike the scenic Riverwalk Trail, a six-mile paved route, along the Dan River, through beautiful parks and natural areas, past historic sites and businesses.
Stop at the Welcome Center, just off US 29 at 645 River Park Dr., to map out your
visit.
